England Women’s Under-19s overcame Latvia 5-0 in their bid to reach the 2026 UEFA WU19 Euros.

The big win puts the Young Lionesses at the top of Group A1 after the first round of games in the final stage of qualifying for the tournament in Bosnia and Herzegovina this summer.

Zara Shaw nodded in from a Vera Jones corner at the near post for an early lead, and it was 2-0 by the break after Jessica Anderson was tripped in the box and Rachel Maltby slotted home the penalty.

Latvia hit the crossbar after the restart, but Lauren Smith’s team got a third goal with about 20 minutes remaining, as substitute Lois Shooter set up Layla Drury to score.

Chloe Hylton glanced in from a pinpoint cross, and Jones completed the scoring from outside the box via the post.

England continue their group fixtures in Switzerland on Sunday, 12 April, when they face Wales with a 4:30pm BST kick-off.

Wales lost out to the Swiss 3-0, with all the goals coming in a 15-minute spell during the second half.
