England Women Under 20s Lose Out to Tournament Hosts Spain

England Women Under-20s were beaten by 3-1 by Spain in their first of three matches on the Costa Blanca.

John Salomon’s team were behind in only the third minute, as goalkeeper Kaiya Joto parried the ball but straight to Marisa who made no mistake from close range.

Daniela Arques doubled the lead with a free-kick from 25 yards and five minutes after the interval it was 3-0 through Ainhoa Alguacil.

England rallied an found a reply after the hour mark, as Ria Bose put over a low cross for Vera Jones to tuck away at the far post.

The deficit might have been further reduced but Jones was denied a penalty.

England WU20s play the Netherlands on Tuesday 3 March 2pm (GMT) at the Albir Garden Resort, and then Mexico on Friday 6 March with an 11am start at the same venue.
