England Women U-23s defeated France 1-0 on Monday afternoon to reach the semi-finals of the WU23 European League.

The goal at the French Football Centre came late in the first half after Erica May Parkinson hit the post and when the ball up landed up at the feet of Lexi Lloyd-Smith, she rifled a shot past goalkeeper Ines Marques into the top corner.

While the Young Lionesses faced a lot of pressure after the break, Isobel Goodwin went close to doubling the lead when hitting the upright.

Lauren Smith’s team await details of their last-four tie but host the Netherlands in a friendly at Shrewsbury Town on Friday 6 March (7pm GMT). Tickets are available here.
