England Women U-20s team wrapped up their match preparations for September’s FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup with a 1-0 defeat to Japan in Spain.

Erica Parkinson twice went close for the Young Lionesses, hitting the crossbar after combining well with Lola Brown and firing over the top from a cutback by Ria Bose.

Japan could also have taken the lead by half-time, but Amiru Tsuji missed the target despite getting through on goal.

After Natsumi Tago fired wide and Katie Cox saved a long-range shot, Denny Draper might have broken the deadlock with a cross from Brown.

With just two minutes left to play, Japan scored the winner when a corner was headed in by Mitsuki Ota.

England WU20s are heading to Poland for the FIFA U20 Women’s World Cup in September 2026, where they’ll face group opponents Brazil, Tanzania, and Canada.
