England secured progression to the knockout stages of the 2026 FIFA U20 Women’s World Cup despite a 2-1 defeat to Brazil.
Lily Dent put England ahead in the first half as she turned home at the far post from Rachel Maltby’ played a swift one-two with Lola Brown’s cross.
But Brazil came back in the second half as Clarinha levelled from the spot after a VAR review deemed that Chloe B. Hylton had tripped Brendha in the box.
Gisele scored the winner in added time but Cox saved her long-range effort moments later, to crucially maintain just a one-goal deficit and remain second in the group with a better team conduct score than Canada, who were level on points and goal difference.
The Young Lionesses will play their Round of 16 tie on 17 September against the Group F runners-up, which will be one of China, Nigeria or Spain.
