Former England striker Ellen White will be inducted into the National Football Museum Hall of Fame on 18 June.

White will be honoured at a special ceremony at the National Football Museum in Manchester. Her induction recognises an outstanding career at the very highest level of the game, as well as her continued contribution to football and wider society since hanging up the boots.

One of England’s greatest-ever forwards, White enjoyed a remarkable international career, earning 113 caps for the Lionesses and scoring 52 goals, making White the highest scoring Lioness of all time. White represented England and Great Britain at six major tournaments and played a key role in the team’s rise on the global stage, culminating in victory at the UEFA Women’s EURO 2022, where she was part of the squad that secured England’s first major women’s international trophy.

At club level, White enjoyed success across the Women’s Super League with Arsenal, Notts County, Birmingham City, Manchester City and Chelsea, winning major domestic honours including the Women’s FA Cup and WSL titles. Renowned for her intelligent movement, work rate and clinical finishing, she was widely respected as one of the most consistent and influential strikers of her generation.

Since retiring from professional football, White has remained a prominent and positive voice within the game. She has built a successful career in broadcasting and media, working across major football coverage and using her insight and experience to bring the women’s game to wider audiences. She has also been active in promoting participation, supporting grassroots initiatives and championing opportunities for young players and women in sport.

‘The Ellen White 3G pitch’, opened in October 2024 at Glossop North End Community Club, funded by the Football Foundation, FA, and Premier League. The pitch honours the record-setting Lioness and her UEFA Women’s EURO 2022 success, with an aim to boost local women’s and girls’ football with year-round, top-quality access.

Ellen’s work off the pitch — including advocacy, ambassadorial roles and community engagement — reflects the Hall of Fame’s recognition of individuals who have made a significant and lasting contribution to football and its development.

Speaking ahead of the announcement, Ellen White said: “It’s a real honour to be inducted into the National Football Museum Hall of Fame. Football has given me so many incredible experiences and opportunities, and to be recognised alongside so many people who have shaped the game is very special. I’m looking forward to celebrating at the Museum and sharing the moment with family, friends and fans.”

Tim Desmond, CEO of the National Football Museum, said: “Ellen White has been one of the defining figures in the modern era of English football. Her achievements on the pitch are exceptional, but just as important is the role she continues to play in growing the game, inspiring the next generation and representing football with warmth, intelligence and integrity. We are delighted to welcome her into the Hall of Fame.”
