The result meant Everton finished second in the group.

Southampton broke the deadlock at home to Charlton Athletic with 20 to play, Ellie Brazil meeting Tara Bourne’s deep free-kick to head over Anna Pederson. But a very late turnaround saw Charlotte Newsham level it in the 90th minute and Jodie Hutton grab a winner for the Addicks in added time, who ended second on goal difference in the group.

Portsmouth took a 70th-minute lead over group winners West Ham when Jemima Dahou played in Tia Primmer to round the keeper and set up Jessie Gale for a simple tap-in. Gale then turned provider for Chloe Sheffield to make it two for Pompey.

Sunderland went ahead five minutes after the restart against Durham, as Katie Kitching played Emily Scarr through to slot the ball into the bottom corner. Beth Hepple curled in the equaliser via the far post from a free kick on the byline. Sunderland gained the extra point by winning the shoot-out 4-3, after Demi Lambourne saved Laura Briggs’ penalty.
