Crystal Palace Women won 3-1 away to second-placed Birmingham City in Barclays WSL2 to move within a point of the Blues.

Annabel Blanchard opened the scoring before the half-hour mark, aided by Molly-Mae Sharpe.

The lead was doubled close to half-time, as Abbie Larkin headed home a cross delivered by Ashleigh Weerden.

With Birmingham battling to get back into the game, Palace broke away and Weerden set up Elise Hughes to slot in the third goal.

Océane Hurtré replied with a tap-in from Lily Crosthwaite’s ball across the goalmouth but with the 90 minutes all but up.

The result lifted Palace above Bristol City and Newcastle United into third place, having played a game more than Birmingham City.
