A comprehensive review of the Adran Premier is under way, the FAW working towards the first ever bespoke strategy for the top-flight of Wales Women football.
Positively transforming and elevating the domestic game forms part of the FAW’s commitment to ensuring a legacy follows a historic summer in which the Wales women’s national team made their major international tournament debut at UEFA EURO 2025.
Industry-leading consultancy agency Portas have been appointed to lead the review process, with a focus on providing insight into the overall league quality of the Adran Premier, community and fan engagement and the current commercial landscape that the league sits within.
The review will utilise a combination of quantitative and qualitative research methods, drawing on data analysis, stakeholder interviews, surveys, and case studies to provide an in-depth understanding of the league’s current state.
The analysis and recommendations delivered by Portas will form the basis of an athlete-centred high performance strategy for the Adran Premier, presented by the FAW in the spring of 2026.
Bethan Woolley, FAW Women & Girls’ Football Strategic Lead, said: “The review of the Adran Premier comes at a pivotal moment for Welsh women’s football. While we are witnessing growth across a number of areas within the women’s game in Wales, it is essential to ensure the continued development of the full pathway. We are excited to share the vision of announcing an Adran Premier strategy in 2026, with the aim to strengthen and elevate the domestic game in Wales.”
Jack Sharp, FAW Head of Domestic Leagues, said: “The UEFA Women’s EURO has been a once in a generation catalyst for the development of women’s and girls’ football in Wales. Our continued investment in the Adran Premier to carve out a long term vision for the league stands as a central pillar to the legacy of Cymru competing out in Switzerland this summer. It is vital that talented footballers in Wales can see a clear and sustainable pathway to a career within our domestic game through the next phase of growth for the league.”
