Chelsea Women left it late to secure a 2-1 win over Tottenham Hotspur in the Adobe WFA Cup Quarter-Finals.
Spurs’ goalkeeper Lize Kop had to push a ball from Lauren James around the post, and at the other end Signe Gaupset took a shot from outside the area, but Chelsea custodian Hannah Hampton parried it and caught it on the second attempt.
The deadlock was broken by the Blues in the 40th minute as Keira Walsh sent a cross over for Sam Kerr to head home via the post.
Tottenham were back on level terms six minutes after the restart, as Eveliina Summanen’s free kick from out wide flew straight into the net.
Spurs almost gifted the lead straight back to Chelsea, but Kop turned Kerr’s shot into the side-netting.
Ellie Carpenter missed a great chance with her far-post header, Sandy Baltimore forced a save from Kop, but with five minutes of the 90 to go, Veerle Buurman smashed the ball into the top corner from the edge of the box.
