Burnley Women won a Subway Players Cup tie in added time, while Sunderland edged their big local derby clash.

Subway Players Cup – Group Stage
Burnley 3-2 Durham
Newcastle United 0-1 Sunderland
Sheffield United 0-0 Nottingham Forest (Sheffield Utd won shoot-out 4-2)
Wolverhampton Wanderers 2-2 Ipswich Town (Wolves won shoot-out 7-6)
Bristol City 1-1 Southampton (Bristol City won shoot-out 4-3)

Burnley reply to Durham’s fightback with a stoppage-time winner.

Both sides had a goal disallowed before Jamie Finn pounced on a loose back pass to put Burnley ahead.

Emma Siddall collected a ball from Deana Cooper, went around the keeper, and doubled the lead.

Durham got back in it after 75 minutes, Sarah Wilson nodding home after Beth Hepple’s delivery was tipped onto the bar.

Six minutes later, it was all square, with Angela Addison hooking a volley over Kirstie Levell to score.

However, in added time Alethea Paul grabbed a decider for the Clarets.

Sunderland secure local bragging rights.

Sunderland made a 49th-minute breakthrough, Katy Watson’s low cross guided in by Katie Kitching.

It proved to be the only goal as the Black Cats got off the mark in the competition, while Newcastle fell to a second defeat.

Sheffield United pipped Nottingham Forest on penalties after a goalless draw.

Despite missing a late penalty in a goalless draw, Sheffield United bagged a bonus point from a 4-2 result in the shoot-out.

Gracie Pearse scored the decisive spot-kick, with Forest’s Emily Batty having saved Amy Andrews’ 85th-minute spot-kick.

Wolves came from two down to hold Ipswich Town and win the shoot-out.

Emma Lawton’s cross was tucked in by Jenna Slattery at the near post, giving Ipswich an early lead, which was soon doubled by Paige Peake.

Wolves halved the deficit a couple of minutes after the interval, with Melissa Lawley squeezing the ball home at the near post.

With a dozen minutes to go, Wolves had wiped out the deficit with Abbi Jenner’s strike.

They then secured a second point, making it 7-6 in the shootout after a save from Alex Brooks.

Bristol City profit from penalties after qualifying against Southampton.

Emma Harries dashed past the Bristol defense to neatly score the opening goal for the Saints.

Katie Robinson levelled with the help of Rio Hardy just before the hour mark.

With no further goals, the points were shared, but an extra one was gained in a shootout by the hosts.
