Burnley Women Seal Important Win at Rugby Borough

Burnley Women secured a 1-0 victory against one of their FA WNL Northern Premier Division title rivals, Rugby Borough, while Huddersfield and Swindon went top of Division 1 tables.

Burnley’s early goal by Charlie Chadwick was enough for victory at third-placed Rugby, while Wolves secured a 2-0 victory at Derby with a double from Charlotte Greengrass, keeping them within a point of the Clarets at the top. Stoke won 3-2 at Liverpool Feds with a stoppage-time Olivia Cook effort, Eleanor Ashton scored the only goal as Halifax secured a big three points at West Brom to move oput of the bottom two, while it finished goalless between Loughborough and Middlesbrough.

Cheltenham beat Billericay to climb to fifth and draw level on points with fourth-placed Real Bedford. Oxford United made an 83rd-minute breakthrough by Emma Thompson at Lewes, whom they consequently leapfrogged into seventh spot. AFC Wimbledon edged Hashtag United 3-2 with a decider from Aliyat Lambe, moving within a couple of points of them and escaping the relegation zone.

Boldmere fought back for a 2-1 win at Leafield, with Annie Ackroyd’s goal lifting them above their hosts and within a point of leaders Peterborough United. Faye Noble’s corner ended up in the back of the Barnsley net, before Northampton goalkeeper Katie McLean preserved the lead with a 90th-minute penalty save. Nyah Edwards netted two of Worcester’s three goals past Lincoln. Sheffield FC played out a mid-table 0-0 draw with Notts County.

Grace Collinson’s 87th-minute goal handed Durham Cestria a fine win at morning leaders Cheadle. Leeds beat Stockport 3-0, York triumphed with three first-half goals at Blackburn. Chorley struck twice in the last 10 minutes to salvage a point at Chester-le-Street. Doncaster’s match with Norton was abandoned at 68 minutes due to a serious injury, with the Belles trailing 2-1.

Fulham kept their top spot with a five-goal win over third-placed London Bees, while Norwich City stayed close behind after beating Cambridge United with a dramatic late Freya Symonds strike. QPR edged Sudbury 3-2 with Ellie Searle scoring their third goal and MK Dons netted six after the interval to seal a 7-0 victory over Chesham. Chatham defeated Luton thanks to Ellie Perkins’ header, Actonians also won by a single goal at Dulwich.
