Bristol City Women Deny Bottom of the Table Ipswich Town a Rare Victory

Bristol City Women denied bottom-of-the-table WSL 2 side Ipswich Town a rare victory, while there were wins for Charlton, Forest, Palace, and Sunderland.

Natasha Thomas gave basement side Ipswich the advantage via a Jenna Dear delivery, but midway through the second half, Harley Bennett brought third-placed Bristol City level with a header from Emily Syme’s set-piece. Ipswich are now four points adrift at the bottom, of both Portsmouth and Durham.

Jodie Hutton thumped Charlton into the lead from close range after a lay-off from Lucy Fitzgerald. Katie Bradley made it 2-0 from the spot after Ashanti Akpan’s foul in the box. Oona Sevenius hit back for Newcastle but the Addicks held on to move five points clear at the top.

Molly-Mae Sharpe opened the scoring for Crystal Palace at the hour mark, Annabel Blanchard doubling the lead within 10 minutes. Sharpe made sure of victory with her second and Palace’s third, Abbie Larkin wrapped up the scoring with a tap-in from Ashleigh Weerden’s delivery, As the Eagles rose to the fourth spot.

Charlie Wellings headed Nottingham Forest into the lead against Sheffield United and up into sixth place in the table.

Eleanor Dale found the net for Sunderland against Southampton 10 minutes into the second half, as they took all three points. The Black Cats are now within three points of the seventh-placed Saints with a game in hand.
