Brighton & Hove Albion effectively secured their highest-ever Barclays Women’s Super League finish of fifth with a 4-2 victory over Arsenal.

Fran Kirby fired Brighton in front with a shot into the top corner, Arsenal hit back strongly and levelled when Caitlin Foord scored at the second attempt, Sophie Baggaley having initially saved her volley from a Mariona Caldentey cross.

Albion retook the lead close to half time, a corner cleared only as far as Jelena Čanković who thumped the ball home.

The advantage was extended with two goals in as many minutes early in the second half, Čanković lobbing Manuela Zinsberger and then Kiko Seike played through to make it 4-1.

Caldentey rifled in the Gunners second but with two of the seven minutes of added time elapsed.
