Borussia Dortmund sign Austrian international goalkeeper Manuela Zinsberger from Arsenal Women on a free transfer.

The former Frauen Bundesliga winner with Bayern Munich, who has signed a contract with Dortmund until 30 June 2029, made 143 appearances for Arsenal with whom she won the UEFA Women’s Champions League.

The vice-captain of the Austrian national team has made 109 international appearances to date and was voted Austria’s Footballer of the Year in 2020.

Manuela Zinsberger, who is currently fighting her way back onto the pitch following a cruciate ligament tear last October, told bvb.de: “The vision of achieving something great won me over straight away. I can feel the energy within the club. Every single person here is passionate about achieving the big goal of reaching the Bundesliga. I want to be part of that. I’m looking forward to being back on the pitch soon and feeling the club’s DNA.”

Manager Markus Högner said: “Manu has played at the very highest level for years and is an asset in goal simply because of her quality. However, in our discussions with her, it quickly became clear just how ambitious she is and what goals she has set for herself at BVB. With Manu, we’re gaining a real boost in terms of mentality, as she will contribute so much to the team through her commitment and attitude.”
