Birmingham City Women win at Charlton to secure the Barclays WSL 2 title

Birmingham City Women clinched the Barclays WSL 2 title, Crystal Palace took the second promotion place, while Charlton Athletic dropped from first to third and into a play-off.

Birmingham City champions on goal difference

Wilma Leidhammar headed the Blues into a crucial lead from an Océane Hurtré cross.

Birmingham doubled their lead 10 minutes after the restart, Leidhammar scoring on the turn as the Addicks didn’t deal with a corner.

A 13-minute stoppage time gave an out-of-sorts Addicks hope for a fightback.

Charlton will be back in action on 23 May when they host WSL’s bottom side Leicester City at The Valley, competing for a spot in the top flight.

Crystal Palace take runners-up spot

Meg Hornby scored directly from an early Portmouth corner, but Molly-Mae Sharpe soon had Crystal Palace back on level terms with a shot into the top corner.

Lola Brown came off the bench for the second half and within a couple of minutes played in Ashleigh Weerden to put Palace 2-1 up.

The same pair combined for a second goal for Weerden, with the latter turning provider for Kirsty Howat to score from the edge of the box.

Annabel Blanchard got the fifth, Elise Hughes had the sixth, as Brown completed a hat-trick of assists.

Ipswich Town get a late winner

Ava Baker shot Ipswich in front from a Grace Neville ball, Eleanor Dale got Sunderland back on level terms midway through the second half.

With four minutes left of the 90, Kenzie Weir headed Ipswich into a 2-1 lead from Lucy Ashworth-Clifford’s delivery.

Durham win derby

Durham finished 10th after claiming all three points at Newcastle United.

Amber-Keegan Stobbs grabbed a 40th-minute goal for Durham, helped by Michaela Foster.

Forest fall to Saints who finish fifth

Michaela McAlonie struck from outside the box to give the Saints a first-minute lead at Nottingham Forest,

It was 2-0 before the half-hour mark as Ellie Brazil nodded the ball on for Megan Collett to bury, Mary Bashford made it 3-0 in the latter stages.

Bristol City Beat Blades

Rio Hardy teamed up with Emily Syme to give Bristol an early advantage at Sheffield United.

This was doubled close to half-time through Lexi Lloyd-Smith, with Katie Robinson contributing the assist.

Lloyd-Smith made it 3-0 in added time and still found time to complete her hat-trick, as City took fourth place.
