Aston Villa Women snapped a 12-game losing streak against Chelsea in the Barclays WSL with a 1-1 draw at Stamford Bridge.

Lauren James broke into the box and rifled a shot into the roof of the net to give Chelsea the lead with little more than 10 minutes played.

Akane Okuma made a sharp stop from a touch by Aggie Beever-Jones, and Lucy Parker deflected a Sjoeke Nüsken effort onto the top of the bar and over as Villa kept it to a single-goal deficit at the break.

Amalie Vangsgaard shot narrowly wide for Villa, Keira Walsh was denied by the crossbar at the other end, Beever-Jones headed in off the post but was given offside.

Approaching the last 10 minutes, Villa levelled as Noelle Maritz’s shot hit Hannah Hampton and deflected in off the unfortunate Veerle Buurman.

Okuma brilliantly kept out a close-range shot from James, as her side held on to claim a first-ever WSL point against Chelsea.
