Youthful Pride: Sian Rogers (England U19s)

Arsenal goalkeeper Sian Rogers describes what it means to pull on the England jersey, saying the pride builds even further on match days when the anthem is sung. She models her game on Karen Bardsley for the way she commands her area and Hope Solo for her movement, and names bringing her club-level consistency up to international level, and improving her distribution, as her major gains of the past year. Still eligible for the Under-19s next season, she looks forward to helping a new group step up. She passed through three Centres of Excellence – Wolverhampton Wanderers near her home, then Birmingham City at Under-15 and Arsenal at Under-17 – and credits specialist goalkeeping coaching from a very early age.
