You Red

An interview with the Cliftonville midfielder who burst through at Linfield as a 16-year-old, collecting four league titles before spells at Blackburn Rovers and Hearts, and returned home at the start of 2021. McDaniel scored eight goals as the Reds finished second in the Danske Bank Women’s Premiership, pipped by Glentoran in the penultimate game. She is candid about struggling to live alone across the water, loneliness affecting her performances and the pandemic making it worse, and says moving home was the best decision she has made. She describes scoring on her first Northern Ireland start against Latvia at Windsor Park, a deflected Marissa Callaghan shot falling to her before she found the top corner and sprinted to Demi Vance. She praises Kenny Shiels, playing at Wembley and a sold-out Seaview.
