World Cup Gallery: England 2-1 Norway (Round of 16)
She Kicks, issue 29, August 2015 p.25
England come from behind to beat Norway 2-1 and win a World Cup knockout match for the first time, Steph Houghton equalising on 61 minutes and Lucy Bronze striking on 76 after Solveig Gulbrandsen had opened the scoring. Karen Bardsley says the team showed an amazing amount of character, with a decision to make about their reaction to conceding, and that she is very proud they made a positive one. Bronze describes simply getting the feeling to shoot and hitting it right, noting that everyone seemed happier than she was and that as a defender she could not switch off and celebrate. Mark Sampson declares that the names of these players will go down in English football history, but that the journey is not over. Readers voted Bronze player of the match.
