Women’s Football Pyramid 2020/21: England
She Kicks, issue 63, October 2020 pp.36–37
The English section of the magazine’s four-nation reference guide, and by a distance the largest: ten tiers, from the twelve Barclays FA Women’s Super League clubs down through the Championship, the two FA Women’s National League premier divisions and their regional Division 1s, and on into the eight regional leagues and their own divisions and development sections. Roughly four hundred clubs are named, and beneath the national tiers the county leagues are set out too, from the Cheshire, Lancashire and West Riding divisions in the north to the Hampshire, Sussex and Thames Valley Counties leagues in the south. Read now it is a useful snapshot of a structure in flux – Aston Villa’s first WSL season, Bristol City newly relegated, London City Lionesses and Sheffield United in the Championship, and a long tail of development and reserve sides that have since been renamed or folded – spread across two pages.
