Where Are They Now? Pauline Cope

She Kicks, issue SK06, February 2012 p.44

For the best part of a decade Pauline Cope was England’s first-choice goalkeeper, a commanding five foot eleven shot stopper known for a booming voice and colourful language. She retired in 2006, perhaps too soon on reflection, when Charlton Athletic withdrew direct support from the women’s team, ending a 24-year career that took in 60 England caps, three spells at Millwall, two at Arsenal including the 1994-95 treble, two years at Croydon with a double, and six years at Charlton. She now works in security at New Scotland Yard for the Metropolitan Police, and jokes that the only time she swears is watching West Ham on television. She rates Deb Bampton a phenomenal manager at Croydon, remembers training with Dean Kiely at Charlton, and is married to Estonia manager Keith Boanas.
