Where Are They Now? Gill Coultard
She Kicks, issue 9, July 2012 p.37
A catch-up with Gill Coultard, the former England captain and Doncaster Belles legend, whose record of 119 England caps has just been matched by Rachel Yankey. Coultard reports that she is cancer free after being diagnosed with breast cancer six years earlier, and is working on the factory floor for a pharmaceutical company in Castleford after ten years coaching at the National Football Academy in Durham. She is relaxed about losing the record, noting she still has more caps than David Beckham, but argues that caps were harder to accumulate in her era. She recalls being selected by England at 13 and making her debut at 18 in Dublin, when players bought their own tracksuits, and regrets that UEFA honoured only the men’s centurions.
