When A Scouse Becomes A Home (Katie Stengel interview)

Three pages with the American forward whose January arrival reunited her with Matt Beard, her old Boston Breakers coach, and helped carry Liverpool back to the WSL. Katie Stengel is very funny on the promotion coach home – electrolytes and water, she deadpans, before admitting Beard had the driver stop at the off-licence – and on trying to decode his Cockney rhyming slang. The substance is harder-edged. She is candid about comparing herself to team-mates, about jealousy, about second-guessing whether she had enough, and about how little a strong American college career counts for once you go abroad. On social media she describes stepping away as the most mentally stable stretches of her career, and posting deliberately unflattering photographs to laugh first.
