What the Dickens is Going on at Hamilton?

A Dickens-referencing account of Hamilton Academical Women’s turbulent 2025: crowned SWPL2 champions in May, with captain Megan Quinn awarded Scottish women’s football’s first-ever testimonial, while the men’s club was simultaneously relegated after a 15-point deduction for financial breaches, moved out of town, and closed its academy. Most strikingly, the men’s board demanded the women’s club stop using the Accies name and badge – a request HAWFC publicly rejected, citing a decade-old formal agreement to use the name and badge in perpetuity. Despite the upheaval, manager Robert Watson has rebuilt his squad with signings from Celtic, Motherwell and Glasgow City ahead of a first SWPL1 campaign, while the club’s academy continues to grow, having won the SFA Next Gen Cup.
