Interview
What Kerys Did Next
She Kicks, issue 86, September 2024 pp.30–31
Former Birmingham City and Spurs defender Kerys Harrop catches up with She Kicks for the first time since 2023 to explain her retirement at 32, prompted by a full-time lecturing role she couldn’t turn down. Now working at the University of Wolverhampton and newly qualified as a FIFA agent, Harrop discusses why she pursued representation work, the guidance she offers players around bursaries and managing dressing-room dynamics, and her concerns that today’s full-time professionals have fewer natural off-pitch outlets than her semi-professional generation did. She reflects warmly on her career, admitting she misses the camaraderie of the dressing room but not the away-day travel, and jokes that facing Lauren James at left-back helped seal her decision to retire.
