Wembley Vox Pops

Catherine Etoe worked the Wembley concourse before the final and the result is the issue’s best evidence of who the tournament reached. Marie Lomax, from Nottinghamshire, had been following women’s football for precisely one week, names Beth Mead as her favourite and wants the win to bring equal pay. Holly Stratford, from Portsmouth, had been to the opener at Old Trafford and the semi-final in Sheffield, picks Beth England and argues the tournament is making a statement to the whole nation. A visiting supporter, David, calls the atmosphere a carnival and a celebration of football and is happy either way. Ten-year-old Manchester City fan Violet wants Alessia Russo, loved the backheel, and predicts 3-2 to England. For the Patermann family and seven-year-old Sophia it was a first women’s match.
