Weir Excited for the Future (Caroline Weir interview)
She Kicks, issue 43, September 2017 pp.25–27
Caroline Weir’s father laid a piece of Astro Turf and a board painted with a goal in the family garden in Fife, and she was the sibling who kept going after the others drifted off. At twenty-two she can already look back on a Hibernian debut at fifteen, a Scotland cap at seventeen, and WSL and Champions League football at eighteen, handed to her by Shelley Kerr – now, by a neat circularity, her national coach. Her goal against Spain in Scotland’s first major tournament was the personal highlight of a summer that ended in elimination on goal difference, and she is clear about the lesson: in tournament football the goals you give away come back to haunt you. Kerr says she has matured massively and simply needed the right environment.
