We Kick: Herne Bay Ladies
She Kicks, issue SK14, June 2013 p.46
A We Kick profile of Herne Bay Ladies, told largely by proud manager Anthony Deer. The season has surpassed expectations: two cups including a county plate, won by beating opposition from the division above three times, with the league still possible from the last game. The football club has backed the women’s team from day one, and the local press gave their success an entire front page. Herne Bay is 126 years old and fielded a women’s team in the 1960s that won a couple of cups, but this is its first modern venture into the women’s game. Vicky Holness has 87 goals this campaign; Enya Lynch has been solid at the back and Lesley Kay, the most experienced player, makes the midfield tick. Home games are at Bell Meadow, cup ties at Winch’s Field.
