Vitality Women’s FA Cup Final 2022: Chelsea 3-2 Manchester City (aet)
She Kicks, issue 74, July 2022 pp.12–13
Chelsea retained the Women’s FA Cup and completed a back-to-back domestic double, beating Manchester City 3-2 after extra time at Wembley on 15 May 2022 in front of a competition-record 49,094 – the first meeting of the two clubs in the final and, the magazine argues, the best showcase game since it moved to Wembley in 2015. Sam Kerr opened the scoring on 33 minutes and settled it on 99; Erin Cuthbert made it two, while Lauren Hemp and Hayley Raso twice brought City level, Raso’s equaliser arriving on 89 minutes. Emma Hayes’s reaction is unusually unguarded, calling it the best team she has coached and predicting the group will go down in history. Gareth Taylor was proud but rued gifting Chelsea three goals.
