View From The Field: Ward’s Words (Helen Ward)

She Kicks, issue 52, March 2019 p.21

Wales record goalscorer Helen Ward writes on Watford’s Women’s FA Cup run and on the state of her own form. The year opened with a 7-2 third-round win at Middlesbrough that started a goalscoring spree, and she is candid about how quickly confidence turns: in good form she leaves everything to instinct, out of it she overthinks even in training. Watford then drew Manchester City away in the fourth round, a huge occasion for a young side in which eighteen-year-old goalkeeper Weronika Baranowska and the centre-back pairing of Emily Hill, 19, and Hattie Kettle, 17, were exceptional for over an hour. Internationally she remains fully committed as long as Jayne Ludlow wants her, with Wales in Pot 2 and hoping to reach England in 2021.
