View From The Field: Kerys Kicks (Kerys Harrop column)

She Kicks, issue 55, August 2019 p.51

Birmingham City captain Kerys Harrop returns to her column after a break, with the World Cup the obvious subject. She was gutted for the Lionesses, having thought this was their year, and looks instead to Tokyo and a home European Championship in 2021. She travelled to Nice for England against Scotland and writes warmly about the camaraderie between the two sets of supporters on the bus to the ground. What pleases her most is the record viewing figures, and her hope is that the audience transfers to WSL grounds; what she does not want transferred is VAR, which she thinks stops the game and produced harsh decisions against defenders. She closes with a tribute to Karen Carney, a fellow Bluenose, and a farewell to Aoife Mannion.
