All four quarter-finals covered in one section. England survived in Zurich, two down inside 25 minutes to Kosovare Asllani and Stina Blackstenius before Lucy Bronze headed in Chloe Kelly’s deep cross and Michelle Agyemang levelled, going through 3-2 on penalties in front of 22,397. Italy beat Norway 2-1 in Geneva through Cristiana Girelli, whose 90th-minute header sealed a first semi-final in 28 years and sent Italian fans into extended carpark karaoke, Ada Hegerberg having equalised minutes after putting her second penalty of the tournament wide. Spain ended Switzerland’s run 2-0 in Bern, Athenea del Castillo finishing an Aitana Bonmati backheel and Claudia Pina curling in, either side of penalties missed by Mariona Caldentey and Alexia Putellas. Germany reached the last four a player down from the 13th minute after Kathy Hendrich’s red card, Sjoeke Nusken cancelling out Grace Geyoro’s penalty.
