UEFA Women’s EURO 2025 – Group Stage Review
She Kicks, issue 91, September 2025 pp.7–15
A nine-page review of all four groups, opening on Switzerland’s moment in the spotlight and closing each section with the final table. In Group A, Finland edged an all-Nordic opener 1-0 against Iceland in Thun for a first tournament win since 2009, before Norway came from behind to beat the hosts in front of 34,063 in Basel, Ada Hegerberg’s header and a Julia Stierli own goal overturning Nadine Riesen’s opener. Spain hit their stride immediately in Group B, thrashing Portugal and beating Belgium 6-2, with Esther Gonzalez the early Golden Boot leader and Janice Cayman’s 96th-minute winner extinguishing Portuguese hopes. Sweden won Group C ahead of Germany, who lost captain Giulia Gwinn to injury on Poland’s tournament debut. In Group D, France beat the holders 2-1 and won all three, Jess Fishlock became the oldest EURO goalscorer at 38 years and 176 days, and England beat Wales 6-1.
