UEFA Women’s EURO 2025 Final
She Kicks, issue 91, September 2025 pp.30–32
England retained the title in Basel, beating Spain 3-1 on penalties after a 1-1 draw watched by a peak combined audience of 16.2 million across BBC and ITV, the most-watched live television event of 2025. Ona Batlle breached the England backline and crossed for Mariona Caldentey to head Spain ahead, leaving England behind for a third consecutive game, before Chloe Kelly, on early for the injured Lauren James, checked back and curled a cross for Alessia Russo to head in on 57 minutes. The shootout swung repeatedly: Beth Mead was ordered to retake after a double touch and was saved, Alex Greenwood converted, and Hannah Hampton denied Caldentey and Aitana Bonmati before Salma Paralluelo dragged wide and Kelly settled it. The section closes with the London homecoming, an open-top bus parade and a stage outside Buckingham Palace before at least 65,000.
