UEFA Women’s Champions League — Quarter-Finals

She Kicks, issue SK07, April 2012 p.32

Rachel Yankey tells Catherine Etoe that Arsenal are confident but underdogs going into a Champions League semi-final against Frankfurt, having reached the last four in untypical fashion. The Gunners lost the away leg at Goteborg 1-0 to a Jane Tornqvist goal, with Yankey hitting the crossbar, then won the home leg 3-1 after falling behind to Lisa Ek, levelling through Jordan Nobbs and adding late goals from a Kim Little penalty and Ellen White. It is a fifth semi-final for the 2007 European champions, now strengthened by the returns of Kelly Smith, Alex Scott and Gemma Davison. Elsewhere Frankfurt overturned Malmo’s first-leg lead with late goals, holders Lyon beat Brondby 4-0 twice, and Turbine Potsdam won 3-0 in Russia.
