Two New Girls (Rachel Furness and Nia Jones interview)
She Kicks, issue 41, May 2017 p.30
Two Spring Series newcomers introduce themselves to supporters who have only seen them play a few times. Reading’s Northern Ireland midfielder Rachel Furness cries at sad films, is frightened of spiders and would head a brick wall once she crosses the white line; she took number seven because she can bend it like Beckham, and had to sing Wannabe on the coach to Manchester City as an initiation. Yeovil’s Nia Jones, a dual internationalist in football and netball, texted her manager to ask which numbers were free, suggested Nialdinho, and got ten. She has moved back to Cardiff from north Wales. Both talk about what a successful Spring Series would look like: game time and adaptation for Furness, and performances that prove Yeovil belong in WSL 1 for Jones.
