Trio of Women’s FA Cupsets and the Second Round Draw

Three shocks marked the first round proper of the SSE Women’s FA Cup. Southampton Women spanned two divisions to beat Swindon Town two-nil through Kirsty Bell and Laura Gilbank; Liverpool Marshalls Feds eliminated Stoke City on penalties; and Cambridge United knocked out QPR three-one with very late goals from Becky Taylor and Laura Mills. Charlton Athletic won the South East London derby at Selhurst Park with Charley Clifford’s late winner, and underdogs Leyton Orient made Tottenham wait seventy-six minutes for Wendy Martin’s goal. The complete second round draw for 8 January follows, fourteen ties including Middlesbrough against Leicester City Women and Tottenham against Gillingham.
