Top of the North (Caithness)
She Kicks, issue 25, January 2015 pp.34–35
Caithness captain Hannah Morrison explains how commitment overcomes football isolation at the top of the Scottish mainland. The club was founded in 2010 by Mark McKenzie, who had worked with Hearts and returned north to find girls who wanted to play but had no opportunity; he now serves as chairman, secretary and accountant, and the side attracts up to thirty girls to training, funded by events including a firewalk. Training is twice weekly in season on a floodlit all-weather pitch, with grass parks in summer and indoor sessions in January. Games are the problem: the nearest team is two hours away and many clubs will not travel, so Caithness are lucky to play once every three months. Her squad ranges from a police officer to a nuclear power plant worker.
