Toni Duggan Retires
She Kicks, issue 87, November 2024 p.7
Former England forward Toni Duggan announced her retirement in September 2024, prompting She Kicks to revisit an old cover image from her Everton teenage years. Duggan won 79 caps and scored 22 goals for the Lionesses across four major tournaments, memorably part of the bronze medal-winning 2015 World Cup squad in Canada. She became Barcelona’s first English female player, starting the 2019 Champions League final, before spells at Atlético Madrid and a return to Everton in 2021. She resumed playing last season after the birth of her first child. Club honours include two FA Cups, with Everton in 2010 and Manchester City in 2017, plus the Copa de la Reina with Barcelona in 2018 – a career capped with a fond, throwback tribute.
