To The Finnish (Emma Koivisto interview)

Two pages with the Finland full-back a few months into her first season in England, on being cheerfully written off. Her group contains Germany, Spain and Denmark, and Emma Koivisto is relaxed about it: as an underdog you have nothing to lose, can play without pressure and simply enjoy it. What she hopes people will see instead is the Finnish sisu, the refusal to give up that she offers as the team’s identity. She names Tottenham’s Tinja-Riikka Korpela among the biggest characters in the camp – the captain who took Finland to their last tournament in 2013 – and describes qualification as a moment she will carry. Her family are travelling from Finland and her brother is flying in from the United States to watch.
