Things You Love To See… Here’s #SK63 (Editor’s Letter)
She Kicks, issue 63, October 2020 p.3
Jen O’Neill welcomes Sarina Wiegman’s appointment as England head coach from autumn 2021 and notes that who leads Team GB to Tokyo is still unresolved, before turning to something a magazine editor rarely puts in print. This, she writes, was the most testing issue She Kicks had ever put together. Access to players had become genuinely difficult, not because clubs were withholding them but because a growing press pack all wanted the same stories, and because content embargoes imported from the men’s game are measured out around match days in a way that suits neither a magazine schedule nor a small independent title. Staff had been part-time furloughed throughout. She is careful to say this is an insight rather than a whinge, and asks readers to understand that when the magazine leaves something out, it is not always by choice.
