They Kick: Roger Finch
She Kicks, issue 23, September 2014 p.51
The magazine’s recurring supporter slot features Roger Finch, 56, known as The Villain, who holds season tickets for Aston Villa Ladies and Birmingham City’s men’s team. He picks out England Under-20 captain Sherry McCue for her vision and leadership, predicting she will play for the full national side, and praises versatile midfielder Chloe Jones for filling in at left-back and passing on advice to youngsters. Finch describes a matchday spent handing out team sheets with fellow supporters Kevin Chapman and Michael Bennett, collecting autographs afterwards to send to contacts in the Gambia, and keeping the mascot dog Kelly, named after Kelly Smith, from toppling off the bar. He would like to kick Sunderland’s Beth Mead for scoring too many goals against Villa, and gives his season award to Jade Richards.
