The She Kicks Locker Room: The Before & After with Fran Kirby
She Kicks, issue 27, April 2015 pp.52–53
Reading forward Fran Kirby, catapulted within a year from FA Women’s Premier League football to a full-time WSL 2 contract and the England senior side, describes her matchday. She eats what she feels will give her enough energy, usually pasta or rice, and wears the same sports bra for every game, a superstition her father checks on. Quiet in the changing room, she prefers to focus on the game and herself, with music on though the game itself usually motivates her enough. Nerves depend on the profile of the fixture and vanish once she is on the pitch. Setting high expectations, she works hard in training after a poor game rather than carrying it forward. Lois Roche lifts the mood at Reading, and Lianne Sanderson and Jill Scott dance with England while she watches.
