The She Kicks Locker Room: The Before & After with Charlotte Devlin

She Kicks, issue 47, May 2018 p.42

Millwall’s twenty-year-old top scorer describes a match day of small fixed rituals. Scrambled eggs on toast, fruit and orange juice with bits in, and a cup of tea if she is feeling cheeky. She walks into the changing room listening to the same song every time, then creams her legs and feet before the socks go on, and wears her watch to games not for luck but to keep the routine intact. Motivation she does not need, being already a motivated person. Nerves are rare and dealt with by a hand-clicking habit. Afterwards there is a hot bath and a foam roller, and family. It is a portrait of professional habit at a club that in the same issue is reported as possibly heading for administration.
