The She Kicks Locker Room: Readers’ Injury Tweets

The magazine’s recurring Twitter slot collects readers’ accounts of football injuries and the marks they leave. Two respondents describe carrying the hexagonal print of a ball on the thigh for weeks after blocking a fierce shot, one grateful it did not coincide with prom day. Another recalls clashing heads playing for her school team and breaking a cheekbone, consoled by the fact that the side won the school league that day. A fourth remembers Lucy Bronze being hit in the face while playing for Blyth Town Under-14s, scoring a header afterwards, and only later discovering her nose was fractured. A goalkeeper closes the set by reporting she has been knocked out cold twice saving shots with her face.
