The She Kicks Locker Room: Game Ready with Lucy Whipp (Birmingham City)
She Kicks, issue 63, October 2020 pp.62–63
Birmingham City’s attacking midfielder, back in England after a four-year scholarship at St John’s, walks through her matchday. She keeps the same meal every time: Weetabix and coffee for an afternoon kick-off, then a chicken wrap with sweet potato three to four hours before, a gel if she needs energy, and electrolytes during the game. At home she takes a short walk in the morning, switches off from football for a few hours, then finds her focus with music in the changing room. She has folded England’s team walk-and-stretch into her own club routine. She always gets nerves and thinks that is a good thing if you use them. Afterwards it is stretching, a foam roller, a protein shake and a proper meal, and a recovery day of yoga, Netflix and coffee.
