The She Kicks Locker Room: Game Ready with Jodie Hutton (Aston Villa)
She Kicks, issue 65, February 2021 pp.62–63
Aston Villa’s midfielder joined the club’s regional talent centre at nine and became the first female player to sign professional terms there, at eighteen. Her matchday is built on two fixed points: she has to have beans, and she has to have the music on. As a team they play Kanye West featuring Rihanna before they go out. The routine barely changes between club and country, and the nerves she does get she treats as useful. Asked to name the jokers of the changing room she says it is a difficult one because there are so many, before naming three team-mates. Afterwards she likes to unwind slowly, and she is candid that recovery at Villa means the unglamorous business of foam rollers, ice and staying off her feet.
