The She Kicks Locker Room: Car Quiz With Lily Simkin

Birmingham City’s 4-0 win at Sunderland in August was an early marker in their pursuit of a WSL return, and for Lily Simkin it was something more: a late cameo at the Stadium of Light that ended 736 days on the comeback trail. The 19-year-old defender takes the car questionnaire in good spirits. Her parents were the taxi drivers, and she shared lifts with local girls growing up. The car is a red Skoda Fabia named Fabio, which as a footballer would be a steady centre-back that plods along and keeps going. She already has the personalised plate. Spare shinpads, GPS vests, a bottle, hair bobbles and, she suggests, mud are always aboard, and Ben Foster’s podcast is the current favourite.
