The She Kicks Locker Room: Car Quiz with Fern Whelan

Brighton’s defender – who is also a physiotherapist, an England international and a Champions League veteran – submits to the car questions and answers them with more enthusiasm than the format usually earns. Her white VW Tiguan is called Tommy and would be a defender, being big and, she insists, quick and nippy enough to hold its own in a race. The dream is a Porsche or a bigger Mercedes, on the principle that bigger is better. She spends around ten hours a week driving between work and training, passes the time singing a great deal and talking to anyone who will listen, and always packs healthy snacks. Her ideal passenger, like a team mate’s two issues earlier, is James Corden.
